He·mip′te·ra (·tē·rȧ), n. pl. [NL., fr. Gr. ? half + ? wing, fr. πτέσθαι to fly.] (Zoöl.) An order of hexapod insects having a jointed proboscis, including four sharp stylets (mandibles and maxillæ), for piercing.
